Citizens for Peace in Space has set up 3 events in the coming week.  Hope you can join us for one or more.

  • On Monday May 19 we will hold banners and hand out flyers prior to the opening ceremony of the heavily militarized Space Symposium at the Broadmoor.  We will carpool from 420 Mesa at 5.  The ceremony starts at 6:30  Join us there at 5:30 if that is more convenient.
  • On Friday we will be downtown twice in solidarity with the nationwide protest of the continued existence of the immoral and illegal incarceration at the Guantanamo Bay prison.  (see update below)
  • On Friday May 23 from 12 – 12:30 we will hold signs and hand out flyers suggesting folks call the president and our local congressional representatives demanding closure after almost 13 years of shameful operation of this gulag. The location will be Colorado and Tejon.   At 4:30 we’ll return to Boulder and Tejon.  Some will take part in a scheduled visit to Senator Bennet’s office to express our concerns.

A Walk to Peace: Close Guantanamo, Resist Militarization and Drone Warfare

The walk is 10 days and nights, 125 miles from San Francisco to Beale  Airforce Base, home of the Predator Drones. Wednesday afternoon, May 23rd will be a special call to close Guantanamo.  When the walk reaches the Sacramento River we will have a moment of silence for Guantanamo Bay. Prisoners as well as all prisoners being unjustly held around the world.

Sunnyvale is the site of Lockheed Martin, where the D-5 missile is made. This D-5 missile is deployed in Trident submarines, and the missile carries 4-6 nuclear warheads. With the Global Day of Action to Close Guantanamo, we come to Lockheed Martin and explore the ties that Lockheed Martin has to torture, Guantanamo, and overseas US prisons.
