JANUARY 11, 2008, is the six-year anniversary of the first arrival of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay.

On January 11, the NYCLU, ACLU and other human rights groups have called on everyone opposed to torture and indefinite detention to WEAR ORANGE to symbolize their sadness and disgust with the national shame that is Guantánamo Bay.

In New York City, we are planning to mark January 11 with an orange visibility event. We want to make sure everyone in the country sees someone wearing orange on January 11. To do that, we plan to attend the Today Show – where audience members congregate outside the studio and are seen by millions of home viewers.

If you can join us, please RSVP for further instructions to arosmarin AT nyclu.org

This is not a protest or a rally, but an opportunity to make our decision to WEAR ORANGE to protest Guantánamo Bay, indefinite detention, and torture visible to a large audience. We plan to stand respectfully – without signs, chanting or protest – in the Today Show audience. We want everyone to feel free to wave to their aunt in Des Moines or listen in to the morning fashion segment – but we’ll be doing it bright and early while making a powerful statement for human rights in our full orange regalia.
