Amnesty International Local Group 56 will be holding a vigil on the Battle Green in Lexington Center, Lexington, MA
Six years ago this January 11th, the U.S. began detaining people at Guantánamo Bay, based only on suspicion. Six years later, despite widespread condemnation, hundreds of people of more than 30 nationalities remain there, guilty until proven innocent.
With Guantánamo Bay, the U.S. renounced publicly the cornerstone of our democracy, the rule of law, providing cover to dictators and oppressive governments around the world. Worse, our values and our founding principles of truth, justice and freedom were tossed callously aside, something no terrorist could have done.
We will not stand silent.
